Waxing
Information
You should not wax if you are
taking blood thinners, oral or topical acne medications or using
over the counter acne medication. Skin that is being treated with
Retin A, Renova or other strong exfoliants should avoid
waxing.
What kind of
waxing can I have done?
You can have anything from
facial to Brazilian and bikini waxing. Many men have chest and back,
as well as nose and ear waxing. Full body waxing is a safe and
economical treatment for hair removal on men and women alike.
What is a
Brazilian wax?
In my studio, this service removes all hair in
the bikini line area, as well as genitals and all the way
back to the buttocks and anus. In other words, everything goes!
If you are interested in this service, it is not the time to
be shy. You will be asked to assume various positions in
order to achieve complete hair removal. This may include being on all fours
(hands and knees) as well as other positions. Please
remember this is considered standard in the industry. I
do
Brazilian waxing on male and female clients.
How long
should I wait between waxing appointments?
We recommend coming in every 4
weeks. For a Brazilian wax, if you keep your
appointments at 4 week intervals, the charge will be less
because the appointment will take less time. The hair must be
at least 1/4 inch long to wax.
How much
do you charge for a Brazilian Wax?
The price depends on how much
hair you have. Average price on the first Brazilian wax visit
is $60, but could be a little less or more depending on time
required. Follow ups at 4 to 5 week intervals are $40 to
$50. Any appointments scheduled over 5 weeks from the initial
visit will be charged more, depending on the amount of hair growth
present. I have more information below specific to male
and female clientele and Brazilian waxing.
Are
you male or female?
I am female. I have been an
esthetician for 8 years and absolutely love waxing.
I have a
large male clientele, and am frequently told that I have a gift
for making my clients feel comfortable and relaxed no matter what
body part is being waxed. My view point is "It's just
hair and skin".
General
Information for Men and Women:
Limit caffeine for several hours
prior to appointment. Clients who normally take Ibuprofen for
pain may find this helpful 30 minutes prior to treatment. Some
people feel that taking antacids (Tums) prior to their appointment
also helps. I have "No Scream Cream" which
reduces discomfort by 50 to 90% in most clients. You will need
to purchase and apply this cream 30 to 45 minutes prior to
your appointment. Hair should be at least 1/4 inch long for
waxing.
Women:
I am a certified
Adriel eyebrow design specialist. If you need help with
your eyebrow shape, we can work together to come up with something
esthetically pleasing for you. I charge a one-time fee of $35
for eyebrow design, plus $12.00 for the wax. If you come in for
regular maintenance thereafter, it will only be $12.00 for the
waxing service.
Just so you know, waxing immediately before
and during your period will be more painful. I
recommend you schedule your appointment at least one week prior to
your period, or once your period is completed each
month.
If you are wanting a Brazilian wax, and
just HAVE to be waxed during this time, that's ok too. It's
your choice and I have no problem with Brazilian waxing while you
are on your period. Just wear a tampon and let me know ahead of
time. I wax the entire area, including the labia. Of course
it's your call how much or how little hair you wish to have removed.
Men:
I
specialize in male body waxing, from head to toes. Many
estheticians or salons refuse to work on men, and sometimes
make them feel uncomfortable if they do take them for
appointments. When you walk into my studio, you will find
it more "clinical" in style. I've designed it to make
everyone feel at home, male or female.
My clients come
from all walks of life: white and blue collar, single and
married guys, dads and grandads, athletes and
exotic dancers, young and old, etc. Whoever you are,
just treat me with respect, and remember that this is a waxing
service only, and you will be welcome here.
Now, for
your specific questions on Brazilian waxing for men. The most common
question I get from people in general is "why would a guy want a
Brazilian wax?"
My reply is, "why does a woman have this
service done?" Generally we do it to be cleaner,
or perhaps we do it to be sexier for our significant
other. Maybe we just like the way it looks. Men are no
different. Some athletes do it for competition (body
builders need to be absolutely hair free). Cyclists do it
because they perspire and can easily get ingrown hairs from
shaving. So there are many different reasons men and women
have this service done.
The one question that is on the mind
of most men is "What if I get an erection during the waxing
service?" Well, so what if you do? It
happens to about 50% of male clientele. It's interesting to note
that this is usually an adrenal response from the waxing service
that most people have absolutely no control over. Some men
have this happen while at their doctor's office having a physical.
It's really not a problem, as long as you treat me with respect and
understand that we are just removing hair, and nothing
more.
Men and women alike ask if Brazilian waxing
hurts. Well, yes, a little. I have heard another
esthetician describe it similar to pulling a band aide off. It hurts
a little, but is quick and the pain leaves as fast as it
comes. Most of my clients tell me that it doesn't hurt nearly
as much as they imagined it would, and the results far outweigh the
pain encountered during the service. It also seems that on
most people, after having the service done several times at 4 week
intervals, the hair releases easier and therefore doesn't hurt as
much.
Some people ask what kind of wax I use. For
Brazilian waxing, I use hard wax. I prefer Cirapil brand, or Barons
Blue, if you are familiar with waxing products. Hard wax is
great for more sensitive areas such as under arms, genitals,
etc.
I use soft strip wax for larger areas such as backs,
chests, legs, etc.
